Iran’s Foreign Ministry completely rejected repeated, legally unfounded claims made by the Persian Gulf Cooperation Council (PGCC) on three Iranian islands regarding Iran’s three islands, Abu Musa, Greater Tambu and fewer cinks, citing a meeting statement from the 165th Foreign Ministers. The ministry highlighted Iran’s indisputable sovereignty over the three islands, explaining that the PGCC’s claims cannot change historical, geographical and legal realities.
The statement emphasized that Iran will continue to take all necessary measures to ensure security and protect the island’s national interests.
Regarding the Arash Gas field, Iran dismissed the unilateral claim as invalid and said repeated statements would not grant Kuwait any legal rights. He added that achieving a fair and lasting agreement requires bilateral dialogue, joint efforts and a constructive environment.
On the nuclear issue, the ministry stressed that Iran’s peaceful nuclear program is completely legal under a non-proliferation treaty, and that the doubts raised are unfounded.
The ministry emphasized that while Iran has consistently acted in good faith in negotiations, the US and some European countries have violated their commitments and disrupt the diplomatic process.
The statement also attracted attention on the realistic and immediate threat posed by Israeli weapons of mass destruction, urging the international community to take effective measures against Israel in regional cooperation.
Iran also reaffirmed its commitment to regional security and stability through cooperation with all countries, refusing to intervene by unstable external parties.
In welcoming the PGCC’s condemnation of Israeli crimes in Gaza, Iran highlighted the need for immediate and effective measures to force them to halt actions against Palestinians, including halting political and diplomatic relations with Israel.
In a joint statement issued after a meeting with the Japanese Foreign Minister in Kuwait, the Persian Gulf Cooperation Council (PGCC) once again reiterated its unfounded claims against three Iranian islands and the Arashgas fields.
The PGCC has repeated years of unfounded allegations against Iran, claiming that three Iranian islands, Abu Musa, Greater Tambu and fewer Chinks, belong to the United Arab Emirates.
The statement also argued that the Arash gas field is within the maritime boundaries of Kuwait and Saudi Arabia, calling on Iran to hold talks on the issue.
These claims arise despite Iran’s repeated emphasis on historic and legal ownership of the three islands, as an inseparable part of its territory and despite its legitimate rights to the Arashgas field.
The PGCC further urged the expansion of Iran’s nuclear negotiations, arguing that the talks should include all security issues and concerns from the Council’s member states.
The three Persian Gulf Islands have historically been part of Iran, and evidence of this is found and supported by countless historical, legal and geographical documents from Iran and other parts of the world. However, the United Arab Emirates have repeatedly claimed the island.
The islands fell under British rule in 1921, but on November 30, 1971, the day after the British forces left the region, the Iranian island sovereignty was restored just two days before the United Arab Emirates became an official federation.
