Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei posted to X on Monday in response to Trump’s recent claim that Iran was trying to develop nuclear weapons.
Baghaei explained that the allegations rely on old statements from ordinary Iranians who have been long rejected by senior Iranian officials and have been discredited by some American authorities.
He said Trump is reviving these unfounded claims to justify Washington’s illegal strikes against Iran’s peaceful nuclear facilities and to strengthen military operations against the Israeli state.
“In a continuing effort to justify America’s illegal attacks on Iran’s peaceful nuclear facilities, when US President Donald John Trump chose to ignore his own DNI testimony before Congress, “Iran continues to evaluate that Iran is promoting nuclear weapons instead of promoting nuclear weapons,” the fact, the nature of his claims, “Baghai wrote to X.
Iran has repeatedly said it does not seek nuclear weapons, emphasizing that its nuclear technology is merely for civil purposes. There is also fatwa by the leaders of the Islamic Revolution, which bans the ownership and use of weapons of mass destruction.
On June 13, Israel launched a blatant, unprovoked attack on Iran, triggering a 12-day war that killed at least 1,064 people across the country, including military commanders, nuclear scientists and ordinary civilians.
The United States also took part in the war by bombing three nuclear sites in Iran with a serious violation of international law.
In response, Iranian forces targeted strategic sites across the occupying regions and Aldeid Air Force Base in Qatar, the largest US military base in West Asia.
On June 24, Iran managed to stop the terrorist invasion through successful retaliation operations against both the Israeli regime and the United States.
