TEHRAN – Foreign Minister Abbas Aragut says Iran has yet to respond to a letter from US President Donald Trump about replacing the 2015 nuclear deal.
“We have not yet responded to the letter of the US President. This response is prepared and presented in the right format through the right channel,” he said at a joint press conference with Armenian Ararat Mirazoyan in Yerevan on Tuesday.
The minister has made it clear that Iran will not be involved in direct consultations with the Trump administration under the revived maximum pressure campaign.
“We will not negotiate directly with the US under the greatest pressures we have witnessed a military threat and an increase in economic sanctions from Washington,” he said.
However, he added that Iran has always been keen to discuss nuclear programs to “create greater transparency,” and has already been in consultation and consultation with three European countries and other countries of interest.
“We have never left the negotiation table for a peaceful nuclear program and will not,” Araguchi said.
The minister reiterated Iran’s belief that regional issues should be resolved through diplomacy and dialogue, opposing regional attacks and military conflicts.
Trump recently restored the so-called “maximum pressure” policy, which was first introduced during his first term in 2017.
