On the last day of UNESCO’s 43rd General Assembly in Samarkand, the Islamic Republic of Iran, a candidate for several executive and scientific bodies within the organization, gained membership in four important committees: the Legal Affairs Committee, the International Bioethics Committee (IBC), the Intergovernmental Committee for the Promotion of the Return of Cultural Property to its Country of Origin or in Case of Illegal Appropriation (ICPRCP), and the Social Control Committee. Conversion (MOST).
This result was achieved as a result of extensive coordination between the Iranian National Commission for UNESCO, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Permanent Mission of Iran to UNESCO, and other organizations. Membership in these committees gives Iran an important position in global discussions on legal frameworks, bioethics, cultural heritage protection, and social policy development. These committees play a decisive role in setting international standards, providing scientific advice, mediating cultural issues, and linking social research and policy-making, providing Iran with new opportunities for global engagement.
The General Assembly concluded on Thursday, November 13, 2025, after nearly two weeks of intensive activity. Iran’s election to these four major committees stands out as a significant achievement, underscoring the country’s active and influential presence in international forums.
