The commander of the Iranian border police has teamed up with the navy to announce the seizure of an oil tanker carrying more than 2 million litres of smuggling fuel in Iran’s exclusive waters near Jask Port.
Brigadier General Ahmad Ali Gowdalj learned that border guards stationed in Hormozgan State have intelligence-awareness and using electronics and aviation surveillance to use large fuel smuggling networks to steal 23 miles of smuggling fuel using oil tankers carrying third countries flags. This operation was performed immediately.
The Navy coordinated border guards successfully stopped the tanker and discovered 2,030,755 liters of smuggled diesel fuel for inspection.
Goudarzi added that 17 foreign suspects involved have been arrested and transferred to Jask’s related authorities.
Experts estimated the value of the fuel seized in the 75.9 billion Iranian rial. He emphasized that border forces had severely hit the smuggling networks through synergy with other military forces on both the sea and land borders.
