Rajie Alishvandi, deputy director of international affairs and humanitarian law at Iran’s Red Crescent Association (IRCS), announced that, at the order of the President of IRCS, the shipment of 100 tons of humanitarian aid has been sent to earthquake-hit areas in eastern Afghanistan, both in the atmosphere and in the land.
Following requests from Afghanistan’s Red Crescent for immediate humanitarian assistance, the IRC provided and dispatched over 100 tons of relief and essential supplies, as well as follow-up with Iran’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, through coordination between the two national societies.
She said the assistance includes food, tents, blankets, clothing and other essential supplies for emergency shelters as well as helping those affected.
Alishvandi emphasized that the IRCS is always standing in countries struggling with humanitarian crises, and in this tragic disaster, as always, the people of Afghanistan possess their full potential.
On Sunday, a 6.0 magnitude earthquake struck Afghanistan’s eastern province, followed by multiple aftershocks. The earthquake has killed more than 2,200 people so far.
