The top Iranian diplomat made his remarks in an interview with Egyptian media.
The US and Iran have been holding five rounds of nuclear talks starting April 12th, and are expected to meet again for negotiations aimed at reaching a new agreement. The two countries are at odds at the level of uranium enrichment.
In an exclusive interview with Egyptian Nile TV, Aragut discussed the latest developments in Iran-Egypt relations and emphasized the importance of bilateral cooperation on regional and international issues.
Iran and Egypt’s cooperation on regional stability
Aragut stressed the importance of his recent visit to Cairo, saying Iran and Egypt are two influential countries in West Asia. “Their cooperation will help reduce tensions in the region. We discussed important issues such as Gaza, Yemen, and the Red Sea.”
He praised the efforts to mediate the ceasefire in Gaza in Egypt and Qatar, saying that Iran’s Islamic Republic supports the ceasefire supported by the Gaza people and is ready to work with regional countries to end the war.
Red Sea Development and the Role of Iran’s Region
Addressing the situation in the Red Sea, Aragut stressed that what is happening in the Red Sea is a natural response to the crimes of the Zionist regime. “We hope that the Gaza ceasefire will also restore stability in the Red Sea.”
He reiterated that Iran’s policy focuses on strengthening relations with its neighbors.
“Despite the lack of diplomatic relations with Egypt, bilateral cooperation has increased significantly in recent years,” he added.
Nuclear lectures and Iran’s position
For nuclear negotiations with the US, Aragut expressed his gratitude for Omani’s mediation and Egypt’s support.
The Foreign Minister reiterated that Iran has always emphasized the peaceful nature of its nuclear programme and viewed nuclear weapons as prohibited.
He criticised the latest IAEA report, stressing that the report is unfair, and Tehran is concerned about the politicization of institutional activities. “But we are ready to address concerns through dialogue.”
The future of Iran-Egypt relations
Commenting on the bilateral relations between Tehran and Cairo, Araguchi emphasized that relations between the two provinces are improving. “We have held several meetings with Egyptian officials in the last few months, and mutual trust has grown. We hope this positive trend continues.”
He reaffirmed Iran’s commitment to a nuclear-weaponless Middle East initiative and welcomed cooperation with Egypt in this regard.
Ultimately, Araguchi said the exact timing of the next round for Iran and the US remains undecided, but Oman continues to play an active mediation role.
“We have received a proposal from the United States and will respond in line with the interests of the Iranian people in the coming days, based on the fundamental principles of the Islamic Republic.
