TEHRAN – Iran’s foreign ministry summoned Dutch ambassador Emiel de Bonto on Friday to protest unfounded accusations by the Dutch Intelligence Agency and argued for Iran’s involvement in “a plan for assassination across Europe.”
At the formal meeting, Alileza Yussefi, director of Western European Affairs at the Foreign Ministry, accused the Dutch annual security report of “rooting in speculations and doubts injected by the Zionist regime.”
“The Islamic Republic of Iran has never interfered in assassination operations in the Netherlands or elsewhere,” he said, stressing that the claim lacks evidence.
The Dutch General Information Security Service (AIVD) claimed in its annual report on Thursday that Iran “coordinated two assassination attempts in 2024.”
Furthermore, the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs summoned the ambassador of Iran from a European country.
He argued that the levelled accusations against Iran are “hypocritical and unethical,” and said the Netherlands “protect criminals and terrorists who openly acknowledge their fearful conduct towards Iran.”
Iranian diplomats have urged the Netherlands to end “comprehensive support for the Genocide Israeli regime” and instead adopt a “constructive role” for Western Asia’s stability.
“Professional and respectful diplomacy, not baseless speculation, should guide bilateral relations,” Yousefi concluded.
Ambassador Devonto has pledged to relay Tehran’s complaints to the Hague.
Previously, Iranian embassies in the Netherlands have expressed Tehran’s position, claiming that European countries “have individuals and organizations involved in terrorist activities against Iran.”
It protected the case of terrorists “someone who openly boasted about their crimes” by the European government, claiming that such protections promoted anti-Iranian terrorism.
