Tehran – The Islamic Republic of Iran boasts dozens of registered cultural elements, but aims to bring the country’s rich and diverse voice to the world, the Human Rights Headquarters declared.
May 21 has been designated as the World Day of Cultural Diversity for Dialogue and Development by UNESCO, with the aim of improving understanding of cross-cultural areas, promoting respect for differences and strengthening dialogue between nations, Mehr’s news agency wrote.
As a key model for enhancing intercultural dialogue, Iran emphasizes the high value of cultural diversity as a human and civilized asset.
Iran is a country with a thousand years of peaceful coexistence of various cultures, customs and lifestyles.
The cultural heritage of both concrete and intangible countries is not only a symbol of beauty and art, but also brings deep concepts of respect, pursuing morality, rationality and peace. From Nowruz to Maqami Music, Naqqali, Carpet Weaving, Religious Rituals, and Local Languages, each representing a part of the Iranian common spirit and connections with other ethnic groups and nations.
In a world where 89% of conflict arise in countries with intercultural dialogue, in a world where tension, extremism and injustice arise from ignoring cultural diversity and differences, intercultural dialogue is not just a choice, but a need for world peace, sustainable development and mutual understanding between nations. Iran has declared loudly: “Cultural diversity is a national asset and a lasting guarantee of peace.”
Just as UNESCO considers culture as culture, it is listed on the UNESCO World Heritage List and is constantly supporting cultural exchange, multilateralism and international cooperation in the field of culture, striving to build a rich and diverse voice that the world has heard.
Cultural diversity is not a threat. It’s an opportunity to build a world based on dialogue, synergy, peaceful coexistence, respect, justice and human dignity.
On this day, UNESCO calls on everyone to respect cultural diversity.
