Iran’s Interior Ministry spokesperson announced that a meeting of the interior ministers of the Organization for Economic Cooperation will be held in Tehran on October 27th and 28th.
Ali Zeiniband said the talks will be held after a gap of 15 years and in line with the administration’s policy of engagement and the development of cooperation with neighboring countries and allies.
He added that the ECO region, with its huge population of approximately 500 million people, has significant geopolitical, energy and industrial capabilities, making it suitable for concluding free trade agreements and promoting trade liberalization.
The spokesperson said that since trade liberalization and tariff elimination have not yet been achieved in the region, Iran has proposed several initiatives, including the establishment of a special free trade zone among some or all member states.
ECO is a Eurasian political and economic intergovernmental organization founded in 1985 in Tehran.
