Mohammad Eslami, head of Iran’s Atomic Energy Organization (AEOI), has announced plans for Iran to triple its nuclear power generation capacity to 3,000 megawatts by the end of the country’s seventh development plan.
Speaking on the sidelines at the Cabinet meeting on Wednesday, Eslami emphasized that Iran has always acted voluntarily and sincerely acted in cooperation with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).
“We will never accept the accusation that Iran has not fulfilled its safeguards obligations. That is a major lie with no evidence,” Eslami said.
He emphasized that if the so-called “snapback mechanism” is activated, the Islamic Republic will take appropriate measures at the right time.
Eslami added that Iran is still committed to lifting sanctions through diplomacy, noting that meetings with Europe and friendly countries and indirect debates with the US are ongoing.
He added that Iran’s number one priority is to lift oppressive sanctions and ease economic pressure on people. “Iran will respond appropriately and proportionately when the other side, particularly the United States, shows true goodwill and seriousness in lifting sanctions,” he said.
