TEHRAN – In a high-level call on Sunday, Iran’s Supreme National Security Council (SNSC) Ali Akbar Ahmadian and the national security advisor to the United Arab Emirates Sheikh Thanon bin Zayed Al Nahyan emphasized the importance of regional cooperation in ensuring the final security in the Persian Gulf region.
Ahmadian, who is also the leader of the Islamic Revolution on national security issues, thanked the UAE for his stance that he condemned the recent Israeli attack on Iran and described it as a constructive and principled position. The two officials discussed the latest regional development, the unstable role of the US and Israeli regimes, and pathways to expand bilateral relations.
During the call, the Ahmadian highlighted the interdependence of security in the Persian Gulf, saying, “Persian Gulf security is a common reality. The threat to national security by external forces inevitably puts the stability of the entire region at risk.”
He repeated Iran’s strategic policy of strengthening relations with neighbouring countries, adding that local security cannot be achieved without the direct involvement and cooperation of all coastal states.
In response, Sheikh Thanon acknowledged the UAE’s view that Iran’s important role in shaping regional dynamics and must collectively ensure the security of the Persian Gulf by regional countries. “When a country’s security is compromised, all neighbors are affected,” he said.
He also reaffirmed the UAE’s support for dialogue and diplomatic engagement as the only viable path to solving regional crises and maintaining long-term peace.
The exchange comes at a time when tensions in the region have risen, following continued concerns about Israeli airstrikes on Iranian territory and foreign interference in the domestic affairs of the Persian Gulf. Both sides agreed to the urgent need for coordination among local stakeholders to prevent further escalation and maintain regional stability.
