TEHRAN – The first national artificial intelligence platform was announced on Saturday. This is an important milestone in the country’s advancement in AI technology.
Open source systems are used to design and develop national platforms. Therefore, the global source used in the project is optimized and includes local electronic circuits or modules. Furthermore, its Iranian base and passive defense issues have been considered, the IRNA reported.
Approximately 16 faculty members and more than 70 researchers work together to build the platform. This platform does not use an external application programming interface (API). Once it’s released, the platform’s services will not be interrupted if the internet is disconnected.
Fast, low cost, scalability and security are key features of AI platforms across the country. The project begins on October 20th, 2024 and is expected to be completed by the end of summer.
Iran’s rankings improve government AI preparation
According to a latest report from the Oxford Insights Index, Iran ranks 91st in 188 countries, up three positions compared to 94th in 2023, as it measures the government’s readiness to implement artificial intelligence (AI) in public services.
AI plays an important role to play by not only governing technology, but also helping governments improve performance.
The Government AI Readiness Index has become a reliable resource for policymakers and is being adopted as an official benchmark by the central government.
This year’s edition prepares AI from 188 countries at a time of growing complexity where governments face civic needs and challenges such as economic uncertainty, climate risks and rising inequality.
The 2024 Index examines 40 indicators across three pillars: government, technology sector, and data & infrastructure. It highlights progress, identify gaps, and provides actionable insights to policymakers working to integrate AI into public service delivery.
At its heart, Index asks, “How long is the government ready to implement AI in the provision of public services?” By answering this question, we aim to provide practical tools that can support evidence-based decision-making and help policy makers unlock the possibilities of AI that can be useful to citizens around the world.
According to the index, the country’s highest ranking is at 66.29 data and infrastructure pillars, which have been improved compared to last year’s 55.88. Includes infrastructure (70), data availability (43), and data representativeness (121) indicators.
The Technology Pillar scored 38.82, and in 2023 it was 38.77. Includes indicators of human capital (54), innovation capacity (62), and maturity (82).
Iran’s lowest score is the government pillar, 26.54, a decline compared to 2023’s 31.56. Includes vision (84), governance and ethics (145), digital capacity (92), and adaptability (177).
This year’s report shows Iran’s ranking in the region has been improved by one position, increasing from 17 in 2023 to 16 in 2024.
The top ten countries are the United States, Singapore, South Korea, France, the UK, Canada, the Netherlands, Germany, Finland and Australia.
