TEHRAN – Iran has denounced President Donald Trump’s recent remarks, threatening the use of force against the country, calling it “deeply vigilant and irresponsible.”
Amir Said Irabani, the UN’s permanent representative of Iran, expressed his concerns in Tehran in a formal letter to Secretary-General Antonio Guterres and the President of the Security Council on Tuesday.
In the letter, Irabani pointed out that he had violated Trump’s international law and an inflammatory statement of fierce violations of the United Nations Charter.
“According to my government’s direction, I write to get the attention of the Security Council and bring about the deeply troublesome and irresponsible remarks made by the former US president, Irabani said.
Trump’s comments came in a media interview published by the New York Post on Saturday. So he told Iran Inc. he wanted the deal he wanted rather than launching a military strike within the country. “I want to make a deal with Iran on a nuclear-free basis. I would like to bomb hell then,” Trump said. “They don’t want to die. He said, suggesting that Iranians should accept and accept his demands or be killed.
In another interview with Fox News on Monday, he repeated this offensive stance, saying, “I want to make a deal without bombing them.”
Iran strongly countered Trump’s rhetoric, and Irabani emphasized that such a threat would blatantly violate Article 2(4) of the UN Charter, which would ban that threat or threat to a sovereign state. .
“The US President’s reckless and inflammatory statement constitutes a clear violation of international law and the fundamental principles of the UN Charter,” Iranian diplomats argued.
Irabani also targeted Trump’s broader policies on Iran, denounced the so-called “maximum pressure” strategy as an illegal and hostile measure.
“This provocation is further exacerbated by the so-called “maximum pressure” policy, as outlined in the National Security President’s Memorandum (NSPM) of February 4, 2025. These unilateral enforcement measures not only escalate hostility towards Iran, but also blatantly violate basic principles. And the norms of international law,” Irabani said.
He urged the UN Security Council to take a firm stance on such threats and warned that ensuring that such rhetoric is not checked would set a dangerous precedent.
“The Islamic Republic of Iran firmly rejects and condemns this reckless threat. The UN Security Council should not remain silent in the face of such brave rhetoric. The threat of power is a threat. Normalising must be violated and explicitly condemned international peace and security,” he said.
“Iran will firmly defend its sovereignty, territorial integrity and national interests over all forms of attack,” he argued.
Trump’s recent comments came days after he signed the presidential memorandum calling for a reduction in Iran’s oil exports to “zero.” The move is part of wider sanctions after unilaterally withdrawing the US from the 2015 Joint Comprehensive Action Plan (JCPOA) in 2018.
