Iranian government spokesperson Fatemeh Mohajerani said on Saturday that talks with the West are meaningless as the process remains unilateral and rooted in control and coercion, while also claiming that Iran is indeed receiving messages to that end from various intermediaries.
In an interview with Al Mayadeen, Mohajerani referred to Tehran’s position on talks with Western countries, recent military threats, and regional development. He emphasized that Iran rejects unilateral diplomacy, has the right to self-defense, and strengthens strategic relationships with neighboring countries and allies.
An Iranian government spokesperson told Al-Mayadeen that talks with Western countries are pointless, even though Iran is receiving messages from various intermediaries. She said the process remains unilateral and rooted in control and coercion, at a time when genuine talks require agreements based on common interests that protect both sides’ national interests.
She said that over the past few years, Iran has clearly demonstrated its seriousness, explaining how the Islamic Republic’s actions and direction have consistently tilted toward negotiation, peace, and engagement with other countries.
Iran’s outlook is based on actions, not slogans, a government spokesperson insisted.
New attacks on Iran demand tougher response
Referring to the Iranian invasion of June 2025, Mr. Mohajerani warned through al-Mayadeen that a repeat of such an invasion would inevitably trigger an even harsher and stronger response than the last time, reflecting Iran’s resolute determination and commitment to self-defense.
He added that Iran has no regard for anyone when it comes to protecting the lives of its people, maintaining territorial integrity and defending national sovereignty.
Iran addresses weaknesses
Regarding Iran’s missile program, Mohajerani explained that since Iran was negotiating when it was suddenly attacked by a U.S.-backed Israeli invasion, it was natural for Iran to strengthen its missile capabilities to deter a new invasion.
She also said that Iran is working to address weaknesses exposed in its recent military invasion of the country.
Consultations limited to nuclear files
An Iranian government spokesperson reiterated to Al-Mayadeen that Tehran, as previously stated, considers nuclear negotiations to be limited to the country’s nuclear file.
Mojajerani insisted: “We do not address any other issues that are outside the scope of this document.”
He stressed that Iran’s nuclear program has always been peaceful, noting that the country’s civilian nuclear activities, whether related to the production of medical isotopes or agricultural and scientific applications, continue as usual under the supervision and control of the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI).
