Mahmud Haidari, aide to Foreign Minister Abbas Aragchi, said the common interests of Iran and Turkey need to avoid “false statements” that could cause tension in bilateral relations.
Haidari made his remarks on Monday when he met with the Turkish ambassador and the ambassador of Tehran Hikabi Kurlangu, according to a press release from the Iranian Foreign Ministry.
“The common interests of both countries and sensitive conditions in the region need to avoid false statements and unrealistic analysis. This could lead to differences and tensions in bilateral relations,” an Iranian official said in relation to Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan’s remarks on Iran’s policy in the Western Asia region last week.
Haidari further said that the continued aggression and expansionism by the Israeli regime were the “biggest threat” to the security and stability of the region.
He added that major Islamic countries are expected to make every effort to help stop Israeli invasions against other regional countries, including Palestine and Syria.
Hicabi Kırlangıç said on his part that Turkish stance focuses on maintaining and expanding good relations with Iran.
“We also believe that both countries should seek close cooperation to promote bilateral relations, promote regional interactions and address existing threats,” the Turkish ambassador said.
He also said he would convey the views of Iran’s foreign ministry to the Turkish government.
