Tehran – The Iranian Turkish co-film “Drudge Love,” directed by Iranian director Hassan Fathi, will be released in Turkey and Europe in October.
The film was screened in Iran last year. After a long wait for international release, Isna reported that it will premiere in 10 countries in Türkiye and Europe starting October 17th.
Produced by Mehran Boroumand and Hassan Alizadeh, “Love Intoxicated” attracted over 2 million Iranian viewers, reaching 1200 billion rials ($1.2 million) at the local box office, making it the fifth highest growth film of the year and the best uneven film film in Iranian Sinemai history.
Filmmakers hope that thanks to the cultural ties between Iran and Turkey regarding the Rumi and the common admiration for this great mystical poet, Turkish release “Drunk by Love” will repeat the success of the domestic box office.
The film will be shown in 250 theatres in Türkiye, and the number of films increases over time. The producers also have signed release agreements for Gulf countries, including Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Qatar, the United Arab Emirates and Jordan, including East Asian countries such as Malaysia, Indonesia and India. Release dates for these regions will be announced soon.
Filmed in Konya, Turkey, the historical drama of the biographical material tells the story of the great Iranian poet Morana Jalal Addin Rumi’s friendship with Shams Tabrizi, a wandering sage who became the leader of Rumi in the 13th century AD, and the story of the great Iranian poet Morana Jalal Addin Rumi.
The film records the love that Rumi had for Shams and the great influence of Shams on Rumi in his life, his poetry and his love for God.
Rumi took on a trip to Syria. He was deeply influenced by Shams during his second visit to Konya, and for several months the two men were constantly interacting, resulting in Rumi being ignored by his apprentices and family.
One night in 1247, Shams disappeared forever. This experience transformed Rumi into a poet. The Shams Divan truly translates his experiences into poetry.
The Iranian actors Palsa Pirouzfah and Shahab Hosseini stars as Rumi and Shams, respectively, while Turkish TV star Hande Elchel plays the role of Kymia, Rumi’s stepdaughter and Shams’ lover.
Turkish actors Ibrahimçelikkol, Selma Ergeç, Boran Kuzum, Burak Tozkoparan, Bensu Soral, and Iranian actor Hesam Manzur are other cast members.
The soundtrack features Alileza Gorbani, a famous traditional Iranian vocalist who plays mystical poems by Rumi, with an original score composed by Fahil Atakor, an famous Turkish musician.
“By Drunk Love” was written by Fathi himself and his fellow Iranian writer Farhad Tohidi.
Fathi, 64, is one of the most famous and successful Iranian directors, and is best known for historic television series such as “Heroes Never Die”, “Lighter than Darkness”, “Zero Degree Turn”, “Tenth Night”, “Shahrzad” and “Jeyran”.
