TEHRAN – Iranian President Masudo Pezeshkian strongly rejects claims that the country is pursuing nuclear weapons, calling such accusations a manufactured narrative that Israel and the United States used to justify recent military attacks.
On Tuesday, at a ceremony commemorating the cultural, artistic and media that he taught during the recent 12-day war between Israel and the United States, Pezeshkian said Iran never intends to build an atomic bomb.
The president condemned the attacks carried out by the US and Israel, saying that the two powers used the false pretext of nuclear weapons to attack Iranian civilian targets. “Under this excuse, they bombed our hospitals and residential neighbours, targeting unprotected civilians, women, children and ordinary citizens,” he said.
Pezeschkian accused Washington and the Zionist regime of trying to prevent Iran from becoming a strong and independent force in the region. “Our enemy doesn’t want to see Iran stand on its own, but the people of Iran are not subservient to power and attack.
He praised the unity presented by the Iranian masses during the conflict, saying that even those who were disillusioned with the government have put their complaints aside to protect their homeland.
“We didn’t always deal with our people, and sometimes they were justly offended by us. But in the face of this recent attack, they stood firm for their people. We are grateful for their loyalty and sacrifice.”
The President reaffirmed his commitment to serving the people, saying, “As long as we are alive and breathing, we will continue this path. We will never forget this country where Iran stood when it was most important.”
“The International Community’s Double Standards on Human Rights in Gaza”
Looking at Gaza’s humanitarian crisis, Pezeschkian has sternly criticised the international community’s double standards on human rights. “Look at what’s going on with the kids in Gaza. They’re dying of hunger right in front of the eyes of the world,” he said. “Where are international organizations that claim to defend the rights of women and children? They exist in their names alone.”
Referring to the graphic images circulating from the Gaza Strip, Pezeschkian questioned the humanity of the person in charge. “Can someone who committed such a horrible crime still be called a human? And yet, there are people who claim that people who claim to be Iranians live abroad.
He also accused Israel of acting in total ignoring international law. “The occupying Zionist regime is doing what violates international norms without assassinations, local attacks, and without restrictions, and European politicians witnessing these crimes are still talking about democracy and human rights.
