In a statement made during a meeting with anti-war activists on the bystanders of the 80th session of the UN General Assembly in New York on Wednesday, Pezeschkian emphasized that meaningful dialogues will be released from intimidation and will only take place on equal terms.
President Pezeshkian also condemned Israel’s recent attacks on Qatar. Qatar condemned what happened at the Cerefire Proposal Meeting, saying it reflects a blatant disregard for human rights.
He pointed out that many countries now recognize that the source of unrest in the region is not Iran, but the Israeli regime.
He criticized international organizations for their inaction in Israel’s crimes, noting that these actions are often supported by the United States and several Western countries.
Reflecting the historical hostility between the US and Iran since the victory of the Islamic Revolution, Pezeshkian said the US was trying to raise issues in Iran in the region and incite conflict. He repeated that Iran did not want war, but he confirmed that the attack would be filled with a critical response.
Pezeshkian recalled how the 12-day war imposed by the Israeli regime brought greater unity and unity in Iranian society. He criticised the inability to confront the atrocities committed by the Israeli regime, and questioned the silence of global conscience in the face of the murder of innocent civilians in Gaza.
He welcomed public diplomacy and communication between Iran and the American people, but noted that the US administration was hampering such relationships. He noted that while negotiations were underway, the Israeli regime had attacked Iran with US support.
He questioned the legitimacy of such actions under international law, and emphasized finding ways to overcome the challenges, particularly given the growing bilateral relations with neighbors and the increased membership of that organization in organizations such as the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), BRICS Group and the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU).
During the meeting, anti-war activists expressed their perspective, criticising the unrealistic statements made by some leaders, particularly US President Donald Trump, at the UN General Assembly, highlighting justice as a path to true peace and defending a direct dialogue between Iran and the United States.
They also emphasized the importance of strengthening national diplomacy to counter false media stories about Iran, and called for effective deterrence measures to stop Israeli attacks on the people of Gaza.
