TEHRAN – Iran’s Deputy Minister of Cultural Heritage Ali Dharabi has announced the adjustments to the upcoming Knowles festival, ensuring alignment with the Holy Month of Ramadan, which begins on March 2nd.
One important change will include extensions of historic sites and post-IFTAR cultural landmarks, allowing visitors to explore these locations late in the evening.
Speaking at Monday’s press conference, Dharabi emphasized that in recent years, Knowles celebrations have been held at heritage sites and historical monuments. This is a tradition that continues this year.
However, given the overlap between Knowles and Ramadan, special programs are planned, such as adherence to the rituals of Leilat Alkador (Night of Order) in some historic locations.
Nowruz preparations are already underway, with meetings with state directors and estate managers scheduled for next week to complete the plan. Dharabi says that at the exact moment of the Persian New Year, celebrations will be held at 1,000 locations across the country, welcoming citizens and tourists.
Additionally, many cultural heritage sites remain open for visitors after Iftar, offering an opportunity to engage in the rich history of Iran while observing the Ramadan tradition. The historic mosque and selected heritage sites also hold special religious ceremonies between Leilat Al-Qadr.
Last month, Tourism Minister Seyed Reza Salehi Amiri highlighted the changes in the upcoming festival of Knowles in order to honor the holy month of Ramadan. Salehi-Amiri highlights Nowruzgahs, the Persian New Year, cultural events will be held after an Iftar meal until midnight, in order to accommodate the spiritual and cultural considerations of Ramadan. He said.
The Minister emphasized that these measures aim to provide people with an opportunity to gather and enjoy the Knowl traditions after they have broken their fast. “Knowirs is celebrated worldwide and we want to create a space where families can gather in harmony with the spirit of the Holy Moon,” he added.
Nowruzgahs, launched in 2015, is a cultural event designed to revive and promote the ancient traditions of Iranian diverse ethnic groups.
Traditionally, when the moon of Ramadan’s turnover moon coincides with Knowles, the celebration is a unique balance, reflecting both the joy of the Persian New Year and the spiritual respect of Ramadan.
