TEHRAN – Iran’s foreign ministry and Iran’s atomic energy agency said Thursday that they will launch new enrichment facilities in “very safe” locations in response to the adoption of a “political” resolution by the International Atomic Energy Agency’s Commission, which pleads with Iran as “non-compliant.”
Furthermore, Iran will replace the Generation 1 centrifuge at the Fordo enrichment facility, which will improve uranium at much higher speeds, with a Generation 6 model, according to the statement.
These moves will significantly increase Iran’s uranium enrichment stockpile, the statement said.
The resolution, drafted by the US, UK, France and Germany, was given 19 votes, three, 11 votes, and 11 votes for three people. Russia, China and Burkina Faso voted against it. Among the countries that abstained were South Africa, India, Pakistan, Egypt, Indonesia and Brazil.
“As previously announced, Iran’s Islamic Republic has no choice but to respond to this political solution,” the joint statement said.
