Iran’s top diplomat told reporters upon arriving in Mashhad on Wednesday that previous talks with the United States had been suspended and had not progressed due to excessive demands on the American side.
The foreign minister stressed that as long as the United States maintains its policy of making excessive demands and insisting on unreasonable demands, Iran will not return to the negotiating table.
In his remarks on September 23, Islamic Revolutionary leader Ayatollah Khamenei elaborated on the futility of negotiations with the United States, saying, “The United States side has predetermined and announced the outcome of the negotiations from its own perspective, and we are seeking talks that will result in the cessation of nuclear activities and nuclear enrichment in Iran.”
The leaders said that participating in such negotiations would be tantamount to accepting orders, impositions and coercion. “Now he (the US president) is saying enrichment has to stop, but just a few days ago one of the Iranian officials said that Iran shouldn’t even have medium-range or short-range missiles. That means Iran’s hands should be tied to the point where it can’t even respond by (targeting) US military bases if they are attacked.”
