In a statement to Secretary-General of the United Nations Antonio Guterres, activists, including university professors, legal scholars, lawyers, human rights advocates, journalists and independent political activists, reaffirmed their commitment to protecting Iran despite criticism of the government.
“Regardless of our views against the government, we are the signatories of this statement – we will protect all of our nation in the case of attacks against Iran, for the sake of Iran, humanity and world peace,” they said.
“An attack on Iran and its defensive capabilities is not just an attack on the government, but an attack on the Iranian state that drags the region into chaos and puts the world at risk.”
Meanwhile, in a statement sent to the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, Iranian activists urged the international community to oppose the crimes of the Israeli regime and the warm threat of the new US regime.
Activists also pointed out that they are concerned about world peace when not only Iran, but also Israel, supported by the US and several European governments, is violating all human rights standards and regulations of international humanitarian law.
Criticizing President Donald Trump, they said he wants to solve international issues through strength, bombs and war.
Trump’s repeated threats to bomb Iran violate the UN Charter and put global peace at stake, he added.
“In spite of our current criticism of the Iranian government and its policies, we firmly believe that Iran’s independence, security and democracy should be freed from foreign interference and established by its people,” the activists emphasized.
“Democracy cannot be established through tyranny and the interference of foreign forces that openly support the criminal Israeli regime.”
Referring to the imposing war with Iran in the 1980s, they said the regime of former Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussein was a proxy force with arms and political support from the Eastern and Westerners.
“We have experienced the difficulties of war and do not want another war,” the activist pointed out. “Iran has not launched a war in the last century, but in the case of foreign attacks, it will oppose it with all forces.”
They also denounced the double policy of the West, ignoring Israeli nuclear weapons and portraying Iran’s peaceful nuclear program, which is under the supervision of the UN Atomic Observatory, as a threat.
