Amir Khan Muttaqi and Abbas Aragushi discussed bilateral relations and the latest talks between Afghanistan and Pakistan in Istanbul, according to a statement released by the Taliban Foreign Ministry.
During the meeting, the Iranian Foreign Minister emphasized the importance of resolving the conflict between Afghanistan and Pakistan through negotiations and expressed Iran’s readiness to play a constructive role in this process.
Muttaqi said the Afghan delegation participated in the Istanbul talks with full authority and goodwill and focused on resolving issues with Pakistan through diplomacy and mutual understanding.
He added that during the third round of negotiations, no tangible progress could be achieved as the Pakistani side refused to accept any responsibility.
Early Sunday morning, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi and Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mohammad Ishaq Dar spoke by phone regarding the latest status of relations between the two neighboring countries.
Mr. Araghchi emphasized the importance of the long-standing friendship between the two Muslim neighbors and reaffirmed Iran’s determination to expand cooperation in various fields.
He also expressed concern over the situation between Afghanistan and Pakistan and stressed the need for sustained dialogue between the two countries with the support of influential regional countries to reduce tensions and resolve differences. Araghchi reiterated that Iran is ready to provide all support to achieve this goal.
Pakistan’s Foreign Minister briefed Araghchi on the recent situation and outcome of recent negotiations between Pakistan and Afghanistan in the wake of recent developments and stressed the importance of maintaining peace and stability in the region.
Both sides agreed to continue consultations on these issues.
