The head of the Iranian army, Major General Amir Khatami, presided over a ceremony in which the floating base “Kordestan” was officially added to the navy.
The event also included the unveiling of the destroyer Sahand, fast missile boats, multipurpose unmanned air units, intelligent unmanned underwater vehicles, coastal and naval electronic warfare, missile and intelligence systems.
The ceremony was attended by dignitaries from Sistan, Balochestan, Hormozgan and Kordestan provinces, as well as families of naval personnel, and paid tribute to the families of three naval personnel who died in the line of duty.
According to the Navy, Sahand, the third ship of the Mouj class, sank unexpectedly at Bandar Abbas Pier on July 6, 2024 after an accident.
A naval team conducted a 14-day continuous technical rescue operation to bring the ship back to the surface.
The floating base Kordestan is described as a port city platform capable of providing extensive support to naval and non-naval forces at sea.
Officials said the additions are aimed at enhancing naval combat readiness, highlighting technological capabilities, expanding weapons projects suited to emerging threats, driving design innovation and deepening strategic reach into the high seas.
