TEHRAN – The 2024 Japanese animated film “Obake Neko Anzu”, directed by Yoko Kuno and Atsuhiro Yamashita, was screened on Friday at the Iranian Artists Forum (IAF) in Tehran.
Mair reported that the 97-minute animation was screened at the IAF’s Naseri Hall with Persian subtitles.
This animated film, based on Takashi Imashiro’s manga of the same name, depicts the friendship between Karin, a strong-willed girl sent to live with her monk grandfather in rural Japan, and Anzu, an even more unpredictable mythical beast who acts as her guardian.
Eleven-year-old Karin is left behind by her father at the home of her grandfather, a monk who lives in Iketeru, a small town on the forested coast in rural Japan. Her grandfather asks Anzu, a cheerful and kind but somewhat temperamental monster cat, to take care of her. Their strong character encounter sparks a spark, at least at first.
Mistrustful of her new guardian, Karin sabotages Anzu’s chores for the townspeople and befriends the eccentric local forest spirits. In an attempt to convince Karin, Anzu accidentally makes a deal with the devil and all hell breaks loose.
