TEHRAN – Three Iranian films will be screened in different sections of the 56th International Film Festival of India (IFFI) to be held in Goa from November 20 to 28.
My Daughter’s Hair, directed by Hessam Faramand, will be screened in the festival’s Best Director’s Debut Film category.
The drama, also known as “Raha,” follows a family struggling in an unstable economy. Tohid, his wife and children lead an average life. Until a very simple event shattered their life story.
Tohid buys a used laptop with the money he earns from selling his daughter’s hair, which brings him temporary joy. However, a conflict soon arises with a wealthy family over the true ownership of the laptop. As tensions rise, Tohid is faced with a harsh reality that will forever change his life and the future of his family, forcing him to fight for what is truly important.
‘K-Poper’ by Ebrahim Amini will be in contention for the ICFT UNESCO Gandhi Medal.
The film tells the story of a teenage girl from Iran who falls in love with a popular Korean K-pop singer. She dreams of going to Seoul to see his performance and participate in the contest. She is allowed to participate in the contest, but her mother is strongly against her participation.
Woman and Child, directed by Said Roustay, will also be screened in the non-competitive section of From the Festival.
The film tells the story of Mahnaz, a 40-year-old widowed nurse, who struggles with her rebellious son Ariyal, who has been suspended from school. During her engagement ceremony with her new boyfriend Hamid, family tensions reach a climax and a tragic accident occurs. Mahnaz then faces betrayal and loss and is forced to embark on a quest for justice.
