Tehran – Homemade human papillomavirus (HPV) quadrant recombinant vaccines have been supplied to the domestic market for the first time.
HPV is one of the most common infectious diseases that cause genital war or cervical cancer in women. Vaccination is the best way to prevent illness. Vaccines have already been introduced in 140 countries.
He emphasized that the vaccine was developed using domestic knowledge and technology, Food and Drug Administration (FDA) director Mehdi Pirsalehi said he has completed all phases of the clinical trial.
Strategic products are effective steps to reduce reliance on imported vaccines, meet the country’s needs in preventing HPV-related diseases, especially in women, and build a land for exporting vaccines.
In January, Alireza Raeisi, a health ministry official, said the health ministry plans to include HPV vaccinations in its national vaccination programme to prevent the prevalence of cervical cancer and genital infections.
“Since genital warts are not common in the country, vaccinations are primarily focused on preventing infection,” the IRNA quoted Raeisi as saying.
The same HPV vaccine as the influenza vaccine is recommended for people at high risk of contracting the disease, officials noted.
In the eastern Mediterranean region, countries such as Saudi Arabia, Libya, Qatar and the United Arab Emirates have already begun nationwide implementation of HPV vaccinations for targeted populations.
Officials further said that bivalent HPV vaccines targeting many cervical cancer-related subtypes 16 and 18 are already being produced domestically. However, vaccines are not effective enough against types 6 and 11, which cause genital war luxuries.
According to Health Minister Mohammad-Reza Zafarqandi, issues of medical and medical equipment production and self-sufficiency in these regions are one of the government’s priorities.
Medicine and medical devices are two important areas related to people’s health, he said, “We are trying to reach self-sufficiency for the supply of medicine and medical devices,” the IRNA reported.
