Tehran – Iran’s Deputy Minister of Education, Hamid Reza Sheikhhoreslam and Iraqi Minister of Education, Ibrahim Nami Yasin discussed ways to expand educational cooperation between the two countries.
At a meeting held at QOM on Thursday, authorities highlighted the importance of strengthening educational interactions between the two countries, the IRNA reported.
Tehran’s Iraq ambassador Nasser Abdul Mohsen Abdullah also attended the meeting. Addressing educational issues for Iraqi people living in Iran, further encouraging access to education and holding identity development camps was one of the other issues being discussed.
Both sides also agreed to establish a joint working group to follow up on the issue and develop joint cultural and religious programs.
Iran-Iraqi Science, Education Cooperative Association Conference
The Iran-Iraqi Science Education Cooperation Council, held in Tehran on February 9th, explored a pathway to further promote friendly relations between universities in the two countries.
During the meeting, both sides also discussed the possibilities of strengthening collaboration with electronic research publications and virtual universities in the Islamic world, as well as the latest solutions for e-learning. More than 20 Iraqi professors attended the meeting, the IRNA reported.
Addressing the conference, Karim Najafi Baltzgar, executive director of virtual universities in the Islamic world, highlighted the country’s educational achievements following the Islamic revolution in 1979, saying that thanks to the realization of educational justice, the number has now increased from 175,000 in 1978 to more than 4 million students.
“Despite the brutal sanctions, Iran is now one of the leading countries in science and modern technology such as nanotechnology, biotechnology, aerospace,” Bahtzger emphasized.
Officials have emphasized the importance of boosting science diplomacy, establishing collaboration networks between Islamic countries, leveraging joint technical and scientific capabilities to face global challenges and promote international construction partnerships.
During the second Iran-Iraq Science Week held in Karbara, Iraq, from January 18th to 20th, the two countries signed an action plan to boost scientific cooperation.
The action plan was signed by Ministry of Science official Omid Rezaei-Far and reported that Haider Abd Dahed, Deputy Minister of Higher Education and Science Research in Iraq.
The Joint Science Program was developed to focus on a variety of aspects, including increasing cooperation in granting scholarships for graduate and graduate education.
