Tehran – The documentary “Singing Wings” by Iranian director Haemen Kaledi won the award at the 30th Busan International Film Festival (BIFF) held in Korea from September 17th to 26th.
The film, co-produced by Iran, Georgia and Belgium, won the Biff Mecenat Award. It was presented to a Korean and Asian documentary in the wide-angle competition. Each recipient will be awarded KRW 10,000,000 ($7,100) to fund the next production, the ISNA reported.
The 73-minute documentary produced in 2025 is about Khadijeh, a 78-year-old Kurdish woman from Iran. And the second is to discourage her daughter from moving to the UK.
In her mind, there is no contradiction between helping the injured bird move and preventing her daughter from moving. This means that it cannot be achieved with WillPower alone. And of the two, it is much more difficult to change the heart of a daughter.
“Singing Wings” follows Khadijeh’s busy life and heads towards the picturesque Kurdistan, a stork’s habitat. The innate sense of humor and hilarious optimism of older women is what drives and hearts the film is to bring out a smile from the audience.
Rather than sticking to the difficulties of the Kurdish people, Khaledi, a native of the region, chooses to bring their pure spirit and simple lifestyle to the screen in the best possible light. It is an F story that unfolds in a fairy tale world.
The director, as he knows, chose a slow-paced story to reflect the slow rhythms of village life. The project’s description contrasts the picturesque beauty of the village of Kurdistan, Iran and its calm natural environment with the challenges the characters face.
Hemen Kareddy is a Kurdish filmmaker from Shuno, Kurdistan. “Singing Wings” is his first featured documentary as a director. During the production, the project received the “Cat & Docs Award” for Fipadoc’s pitching program.
Dedicated to discovering and introducing exceptional Korean and Asian films, the Busan International Film Festival brings exceptional films to global audiences while solidifying Busan’s identity as a mecca for Asian cinema and visual culture.
Widely regarded as an acclaimed film festival in Asia, Biff plays a pivotal role in shaping the region’s cinematic landscapes, proudly rising up alongside famous film festivals around the world.
