Tehran-The 2024 Director of the Iranian drama romance television miniseries “The End of the Night” directed by Ida Panahandeh will compete in the 2025 edition of the Series Mania Festival held in France from March 21st to 28th.
Selected for the International Panorama Section, the series will perform international premieres and compete with nine other works from Spain, Belgium, Brazil, Norway, Korea, UK, Iceland, Sweden and France.
Written and produced by real-life creative couples, Panahande and Arsaran Amiri, the Nine Episode series tells the story of a couple living outside of Tehran who are trying to improve their lives and finances. However, as their efforts fail, they break up following a divorce.
The miniseries, the only participant from Iran and West Asia at the festival, was selected from 400 series submitted to the event from 56 countries.
It delicately and skillfully analyzes the separation of couples shattered by disillusionment in their social situations.
The Iranian miniseries is a powerful and intense reflection on sacrificing lives together, and stands out with its deep, authentic characters and the extraordinary performances of two lead actors, Parsa Pirouzfar and Hoda Zeinolabedin.
Other cast members include Rayan Sarlak, Alireza Davoudnezhad, Reza Behboudi, Ehteram Boroumand, Siamak Safari, Kazem Hajirazad, and Nahid Moslemi.
Ida Panahandeh, 45, was born in Tehran. She holds a Masters degree in Film orientation from the Arts College in Tehran. In 2009, she joined the Berlin talent campus.
Throughout her work, she has focused on women’s rights. This was done in her debut film, “Nahid” (2015). It was screened in the UN Certain Respect section of the 2015 Cannes Film Festival, where it won a special award (Prix de L’Avenir) and was released in France by Memento Films. “Nahid” was later released in theaters in many European countries.
Her second feature, “Israfil” (2017), was screened at the BFI London Film Festival and won several awards at the International Festival.
“Nikaidos ‘Fall” (2018), her third feature is her co-producing with Naomi Kawase as an executive producer in Japan and Hong Kong. The film debuted at the Nara International Film Festival, and was released in Japan in January 2019, and later released in several East Asian countries.
“Titi” (2020) Her fourth feature film premiered at the International Film Festival in Kyoto No. 33. In 2022, it won three awards at national and international festivals.
Two years ago, in the 2023 edition of the festival, the “actor” of Nimajavidi, the first Iranian series to be nominated in this section, brought home the Grand Prix from the Ju umpire.
The Lille-based series enthusiast has been the biggest event uniquely dedicated to European television series. The festival offers exclusive world premieres of the best international series on the big screen, offering an audience of 85,500 people an eight-day discovery, party and masterclass.
The festival continues online alongside Series Mania+, a digital platform for viewing series and conferences from the program.
At the same time, Series Mania welcomes 3,800 French and foreign experts from the TV industry at the Series Mania Forum with three-day pitching, networking, G, high-level meetings.
