TEHRAN – Iranian President Masuud Pezeshkian had a telephone conversation with Qatar Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani on Tuesday, expressing solidarity following the attacks by the Zionist regime, clarifying Iran’s recent military response.
President Pezeshkian emphasized that the missile strike was a direct response to the US’s obvious involvement in Israel’s attacks on Iranian territory and was not directed towards Qatar.
“What happened yesterday was only a response to foreign attacks and should not be seen as a conflict with Qatar’s friendly, siblings, neighboring state,” Pezeshkian said.
He expressed Iran’s gratitude for Qatar’s continued support, especially during times of crisis, and emphasized Tehran’s commitment to strengthening bilateral relations.
Referring to recent events, Pezeshkian said that Iran was in peaceful negotiations when it was suddenly attacked. “Negotiations under military pressure are designed to impose the will of the invaders,” he said. “We had no choice but to respond properly.”
Qatar Emir welcomed the call and described it as a conversation not only between neighboring leaders, but also as an exchange between close friends. He reassured Iran. Reassuring that US military bases in Qatar will not be used side-by-side in Iran, Qatar has made significant public and personal efforts to eliminate tensions in the region.
Both leaders expressed their hopes for a future meeting in Doha to discuss expanding bilateral cooperation.
