Shamhani said in the mail of X on Saturday, ahead of the meeting between Iranian and American negotiators in Rome, Iranian negotiators have been sent to the Italian capital at full discretion to pursue a “comprehensive” deal based on nine principles.
The nine principles are “severity, guarantee, balance, removal of sanctions, rejection of the Libyan/Emirates model, avoidance of threats, avoidance of speed, containment of nuisances (such as Israel), and encourage investment.”
“Iran is there for a balanced agreement, not surrendering,” he added.
Indirect negotiations in Rome are co-chaired by Foreign Minister Abbas Arakich and Steve Witkov, envoys of the US President of the Middle East. Omani Foreign Minister Bador bin Hamad al-Busaidi.
A spare round was held in Muscat, Oman’s capital, on April 12th.
The talks aim to reach an agreement on the Iranian nuclear program and the elimination of sanctions against the Islamic Republic. They demanded that President Donald Trump writes a letter to the leader of the Islamic Revolution and then seyed Ali Khamenei and open negotiations to a deal between Tehran and Washington. Trump unilaterally withdrew the US from a previous agreement with Iran in 2018. Ayatollah Khamenei has approved the indirect negotiations.
