Iranian Oil Minister Mohsen Pakhnejad left Tehran on Tuesday night to attend the 27th Ministerial Meeting of the Gas Exporting Countries Forum (GECF) in Doha, Qatar, according to the Government Information Center.
The meeting, to be held on Thursday, will be the seventh time that Qatar has hosted a GECF ministerial meeting, the last time being in 2016.
Key topics include coordination among member countries to address global policies that may pose challenges to natural gas development and trade. Participants will also discuss organizational issues such as the selection of the next GECF Secretary-General and preparations for the 8th GECF Leaders’ Summit in Moscow.
An extraordinary meeting of the GECF Board will be convened on Wednesday to consider the draft agenda, draft resolutions and final communiqué for the ministerial meeting.
As the highest decision-making body of the GECF, the Council of Ministers meets annually to decide on key organizational procedures and to exchange views on major global and regional developments in the gas industry.
