The Iranian Mantodare fauna consists of nine families and at least 40 species. Scientific research conducted by Iranian entomologists has recently increased knowledge of mantos diversity and biology.
Among the Mantodare species dispersed in Iran, the Toxoderidae family has been considered a group of very enigmatic prayer mantids with very elongated bodies. So far, six species of this family have been reported from Iran completely from the southern half of the country.
The original research identified this new species from a conserved collection in Armenia. These findings significantly extend the known distribution of the genus Sinaiela Uvalov in 1924, across the Arabian Peninsula.
The newly discovered species was introduced to the world on February 27th by publishing an article in Zootaxa, a megajournal for global zoological taxonologists.
Cornegali is currently studying as a doctoral researcher in natural resources and sustainable development at the University of Cordoba, Spain. He established the Iranian Birds and Transmission Route Committee and implemented several conservation projects focusing on vertebrates and their habitats, particularly wildlife in Iranian protected areas and landfills and national wetlands.
Iran is among 20 countries rich in biodiversity and genetics
There are 11 ecosystems around the world, nine of which have been identified in Iran. Furthermore, out of the 42 types of wetlands, there are 41 species in the country. Therefore, Iran is one of 20 countries rich in biodiversity and genetics.
Due to the biological and genetic diversity of the country, many plants and animals are native to Iran. Currently, Iran has 2,100 endemic plant species.
