The purchase of the remaining land was the subject of negotiations during a meeting between Russian Prime Minister Mishtin and Iran’s first vice president, Mohammad Reza Alev, in Kyrgyzstan’s Cholpon Ata.
“We discussed the details of the construction of the railway in the Rasht-Astara section about how the land acquisition is progressing. In fact, we have already begun work there and technical investigations are underway on the parcel of land purchased by the Iranian government,” Overchuk said.
The talks also covered the implementation of a free trade agreement between Iran and the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU). Overchuk recalled that the contract came into effect in May.
“This is a very important document. It essentially opens up opportunities to trade over 90% of items at zero rates. Therefore, both the Eurasian Economic Union and the Islamic Republic of Iran are mutually interested in the agreement providing returns. We discussed how to set up a way of implementing this agreement.
