The US proposal for a new nuclear agreement with Iran is unacceptable. An Iranian source familiar with the issue told RT. Washington recently outlined its terms in a letter to Iran after a five-round lecture mediated by Oman.
“Iran considers US written elements very far from what could possibly be seen as a fair and realistic foundation for compromise,” the source said.
“Iranians were disappointed to see such fantastical, one-sided texts and not in contact with reality,” the source added.
The White House said on Sunday that Middle Eastern envoy Steve Witkov sent Tehran “a detailed and acceptable proposal.”
Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Aragut said the Islamic Republic would provide a response “in line with the principles, national interests and rights of the people of Iran.”
Trump previously insisted on a “complete dismantling” of Iran’s nuclear program, suggesting that private purposes should not be allowed to enrich uranium. Araghchi rejected these terms and said the US must lift all sanctions and “support Iran’s nuclear rights, including enrichment.”
During his first term in office, Trump retracted the US from an unsupported Iranian nuclear deal in 2015, accusing him of secretly violating it, and reimposed sanctions as part of his “maximum pressure” campaign. Tehran denied violating the 2015 agreement, but has since continued to increase in uranium enrichment.
