The National Iran Gas Company (NIGC) said on Monday that the amount of refined gas injected into the country’s national pipeline network reached 870 million cubic meters (MCM) a day ago.
The NIGC said Iranian households, businesses and small industries consumed roughly 606 MCM of supply, an increase of 10% compared to the same day last year.
The Iranian power plant was responsible for consumption of 149 MCM, the company said without elaborating the figures and supplies of exports delivered to large industries.
There was no information on the amount of sour gas produced in Iranian gas fields on Sunday.
However, authorities earlier this month said daily production of sour gas led to a significant increase in production of Southpur, the world’s largest gas field shared between Iran and Qatar in the Persian Gulf, to more than 1 billion cubic meters. It was announced that it exceeded the record.
Record levels of Iran’s natural gas production and consumption come amid a new cold wave that has cleaned most of the country and boosted demand for heating.
Government departments, schools and banks were closed on the second day on Tuesday in the capital Tehran and many other cities to prevent disruption to power sources from the power department connected to the national gas grid.
