Iran ranks 94th in government AI readiness
Oxford Insights, which provides data on the readiness of artificial intelligence in public service delivery, ranked Iran 94th out of 193 governments in the world in 2024.
Governments are working not only to foster AI innovation and establish regulatory frameworks, but also to integrate this technology into public services.
However, understanding how to effectively deploy AI for the public good remains a challenge. This index attempts to address this issue.
It includes 39 indicators across 10 dimensions comprising three pillars: government, technology sector, and data and infrastructure.
According to the index, the highest ranking in the country was in the data and infrastructure sector at 55.88. This includes metrics for infrastructure, data availability, and data representativeness.
The country’s score in the technology pillar was 38.77. This includes human capital, innovation capabilities, and maturity indicators.
Iran’s lowest score is 31.56 in the government pillar, likely due to the absence of a national document on AI development. However, the implementation of this document is expected to increase the country’s ranking in the future.
The United States, Singapore, and the United Kingdom ranked first through third, respectively.
Most countries had the lowest scores in the technology pillar, which includes human capital and innovation capacity. However, most Arab countries have been able to make significant progress in accelerating government readiness for AI adoption by investing in strengthening infrastructure and developing strategies related to establishing AI. These countries ranked among the top 50 countries in the index.
