TEHRAN – The High Council of the Islamic Republic has issued a strong condemnation of the Israeli regime’s “crime” attack on the headquarters of the Islamic regime’s Islamic Broadcasting (IRIB).
The attack, which targeted IRIB’s headquarters in Tehran on Monday evening, brought the martial arts of two staff members in the network.
In a statement released following the attack, the council described the Israeli regime’s actions as “co-disordering” and “aggressive” and emphasized that targeting media institutions constitutes a clear violation of international law. The statement cited the Geneva Convention and the UN Security Council resolution protecting the safety and immunity of journalists and media agencies in an era of armed conflict.
The attack on media agencies, including national media in Iran’s Islamic Republic, is a blatant violation of journalists and fundamental principles of media protection in armed conflict, the statement read. “Attacks like medical facilities are clear and absolute prohibited under international law.”
The council further emphasized that the attack on media outlets reflects the deep fears of the Israeli regime, particularly about the “truth” about the Palestinian struggle for justice and efforts to curb information.
The judicial organisations have called on international organisations, including the United Nations, UNESCO, the UN Human Rights Council and independent media associations, to condemn Israel’s attacks on the most powerful terms. The statement urged these agencies to take concrete, effective and deterrent measures to hold the Israeli regime accountable for its illegal activities.
“In a world where the media is supposed to protect truth, consciousness and human dignity, targeting them is a sign of despair and fear caused by a regime that no longer complies with rules or principles,” the statement concluded. “History will never forget these crimes.”
