Tehran – Iranian drones have been giving themselves names in recent years. They are fast, accurate, inexpensive and reportedly have many enthusiastic customers across different continents.
However, despite impressive success, the country has shown its still ambitious about its drone program as it unveiled a new generation of weapons on Tuesday. These new drones have a noticeable difference compared to their predecessors. They are getting significantly smaller.
Micro Aviation Vehicles (MAVs) are small, lightweight drones designed for special tasks. These miniature UAVs are great in situations where larger drones cannot operate, such as indoor environments or tight spaces. Brigadier General Mohammad Pakpur, commander of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard (IRGC) ground force, told the Tehran Times that MAVS had taken part in direct combat in recent years.
“Over the past two or three years, developments around the world have made it clear that MAVs can be used for more than surveillance and reconnaissance efforts,” General Pakpour said. The drones were used to attack tanks. Naturally, it is extremely difficult for a tank to target these comparable small weapons. Mavs are much lower than a single tank, even in bulk. ”
The interview was conducted because the IRGC commander oversaw training in the southwestern part of Iran. “The conflict between Ukraine, Armenia and Azerbaijan highlights the potential benefits of microdrones. As a result, we decided to develop a more sophisticated generation of MAVs. We are the ones who say they “We’ve incorporated it into military exercises and they’ve successfully completed the mission so far, so we can say they’re the best in the world,” General Pakpur said.
The Tehran Times understands that “Saber” is one of the MAVs used in the course of drills so far. They are able to carry a variety of anti-tank and anti-personnel weapons within a 5km range.
The general did not identify the current scope of Iranian or potential customers’ use of these new weapons. However, given the attention surrounding Iranian UAVs, these microdrones are equally valuable to the country and can be horrifying to their enemies.
