Tehran Iranshale Theatre Complex in Tehran hosts the play Lonesome West, written by British and Irish playwright Martin Macdonna.
Fuad Kharabati oversaw the 75-minute plays with Roozbeh Hesari, Mohammad Sedighi Mehr, Behafarid Ghafarian and Soheil Mostajabian on the cast.
“The Lonesome West” is part of McDonagh’s Connemara Trilogy and includes “The Beauty Queen of Leenane” and “Connemara’s Skull.” All three plays depict the murder of the Western Ireland town of Renane.
In the play, Valen and Coleman feel that since their recent death, the two brothers, who live alone in their father’s house, are impossible to exist without the biggest and violent conflict over the most mundane and innocent topic. Only Father Welsh, a young local priest, is ready to reconcile the two to a vicious, bloody massacre before their little conflict spiral.
Martin McDonagh, 54, is an English-Irish playwright and filmmaker. He is known for his absurd, dark humor, which often challenges the aesthetics of modern theatre. He has received numerous accolades, including five Tony Award nominations, including an Academy Award, six BAFTA Awards, two Golden Globe Awards and three Olivier Awards.
Many of his plays have been produced in the West End and Broadway. It includes “The Queen of the Beauty of Rennan”, “The Unfreedom of Inishman” (both 1996), “Inishmore li” (2001), “Pillowman” (2003), “The Show of Spokane” (2010), and “Hangmen” (2015).
McDonna won an Academy Award for Best Live Action Short Film in “Six Shooting Games” and was nominated for six other Academy Awards for “Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Inmissouri”, “Banshee of Innichelin” (2022) and “Three Billboards” (2022).
He is the most controversial Irish playwright working today, working in the quest for Irish national identity, seeing the dark side of rural life. His dark but black cartoon depiction of his dark country Irish court is discussed in its dark farce, caricatures of violence and wild bars, and exaggerated poetic dialects of Hiberno English.
“The Lonesome West” will remain on stage at the Iranshahr Theater in the Artist Park on North Mousavi Street, Taleqani Street, until March 14th.
