Tehran – Iraq Airlines has resumed weekly flights to Rasht Airport in Iran’s Gilan province after a nearly one month suspension caused by the recent 12-day conflict between Iran and Israel.
Gilan Airport director Seyyed Mohsen Mirhosseini announced on Saturday that the airline has resumed service with 12 round-trip flights per week, with plans to increase flight counts in the near future.
“The reopening of Iraq Airlines flights brings hope for an expansion of commercial, tourism and cultural ties between Gilan and Iraq,” Mirhoseni said.
Before the brief conflict, Iraqi Airlines operated 30 round-trip flights and Rashts between major Iraqi cities (Baghdad, Basra and Najaf), highlighting the high passenger and cargo capacity between the two regions.
Known for its natural beauty, cosy climate and scenic beaches, Gilan remains a popular destination among Iraqi travelers.
The recent conflict, which began on June 13th after a massive air invasion by Israel, temporarily suspends almost all international services throughout the Islamic Republic.
