Iraqi Foreign Minister Huad Hussein has denounced Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu after threatening to target what is known as Iraqi “militias.”
Speaking at a press conference in New York, Iraqi top diplomats described Netanyahu’s comments in his speech to the 80th UN General Assembly as “unacceptable.” Hussein emphasized that “an attack on Iraq is an attack on Iraq.”
Earlier on Friday, Iraqi resistance group Harakat Al-Nujaba dismissed Netanyahu’s threat.
“Netanyahu’s speech was a future speech, but it is an air threat to resistance,” Al Nujaba spokesman Hussein al-Mashawi said in a statement. “It’s a clear confirmation of his intention to advance Gaza genocide, the threat to global peace and blatant violations of international norms.”
Al Masawi added that the group did not give credit to Netanyahu’s comments. He said it reflects the “moral and humanitarian crises” shared by Israeli allies, several European countries, and Arab countries that normalized relations with Israel. “Our options are open and when our missiles and drones hit them in the most sensitive places, they are already experiencing our power,” he warned.
Harakat Al-Nujaba is a coalition of four Iraq- and Syria-based resistance groups designated by the US as terrorist organizations. Since the Israeli regime’s war with Gaza began, Iraqi resistance groups have carried out multiple retaliatory operations against various targets within Israel.
In a speech to the General Assembly, Netanyahu argued that Israel “stopped Iran’s Shiite militia in Iraq. They are still deterred and if they attack Israel, their leaders will no longer be. The Israeli Prime Minister spoke to the Almost Empty Hall of Fame after many delegations left in protest of the regime’s crimes in Gaza.
