According to a correspondent at Tasnim in Baghdad, the security operations lasted more than 750 days, targeting networks that handled financial transfers and extremist movements against Iraqi Dash.
Iraq’s intelligence agency and counterterrorism forces have detained members of the major Daesh finance network, which are responsible for smuggling extremists from multiple countries for the group’s operations on cross-border missions.
The operation, carried out under the supervision of Iraq’s Supreme Judicial Council in Kirkuk Province, attacked a network that funds Dash cells in Iraq.
Authorities said the mission follows the group’s financial structure and movements and communications channels to support the planned attacks, following extensive surveillance of Dash operatives from West Africa to the Middle East.
The announcement comes after Iraqi sources previously told Tasnim that Takfiri militants had stepped up their activities along the Syrian border and moved across both sides.
Last week, reports of a meeting in Damascus between the Iraqi Intelligence Chief and Ahmad Alshara (known as Jorani) emerged.
Baghdad’s concerns have grown over the revival of the dashly linked network since the rise of extremist elements as governing authorities in parts of Syria.
