Iraqi Foreign Minister Huad Hussein said Baghdad supports negotiations between Iran and the US, which aimed to avoid the threat of war in the region.
According to Al Jazeera, Huad Hussein welcomed indirect talks between Tehran and Washington, with a third round scheduled for next Saturday.
There is no alternative to negotiations, he added.
Earlier on April 19, Omani’s Foreign Ministry said in a statement that Iran, the US and Oman had agreed to enter the next phase of the debate as the mediators. These consultations are intended to establish a fair, lasting and binding agreement.
“Only through dialogue and clear communication can we achieve mutually reliable agreements and understandings to benefit all involved regionally and internationally,” the statement reads.
Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baqaei announced on Tuesday that bilateral technical consultations, originally planned on Wednesday, have been rescheduled next Saturday, following Omani’s initiative and mutual agreement between Iran and the US delegation.
