TEHRAN – Information and Communications Technology (ICT) Minister Satta Hashemi and Tehran’s Ambassador to Iraq Nasea Abdul Mohsen Abdullah discussed ways to expand technical cooperation between the two countries.
At a meeting held in Tehran on Thursday, Hashemy detailed the ICT Ministry’s strategic plan aimed at promoting technical diplomacy. The official highlighted the need to benefit from the capabilities of both countries as a link to international transport routes using Iran’s infrastructure, Mehr News Agency reported.
Hashemmi said the private sector in Iran and Iraq can work together in the areas mentioned, referring to the capabilities of knowledge-based companies and the growth of the domestic digital economy.
Abdullah, on his part, called for the promotion of collaboration and emphasized the constructive efforts to strengthen relationships. Iraqi officials said the two countries could expand cooperation on cybersecurity and the digital economy.
The two staff also highlighted the provision of a robust communications network to better serve pilgrims at Arbaeen Pilgrimage.

Expanding cooperative associations in the ICT sector

Officials have proposed co-investment in the development of international transport, marine fibers and Iran’s big data centres as potential axis for other collaborations.

In November 2023, Iran and Iraq signed a memorandum of understanding to expand bilateral cooperation.
