TEHRAN – Iranian pilgrimage and pilgrimage agencies have announced that Muharram and Safa pilgrimage trips to Iraq are progressing as planned during the month of the sacred month, and that overland is still operating despite the ongoing flight restrictions at several Iranian airports.
The organization says an arrangement is being made to promote a pilgrimage of 10,400 people to the Iraqi Holy Temple. Of this total, 7,900 pilgrims will travel overland, while around 2,500 are expected to travel in the air depending on the availability of flights.
At present, around 1,600 individuals have signed up for land travel, with 180 awaiting final confirmation of the flight.
The organization also highlighted that travel packages with affordable, budget-friendly options are available to accommodate a wide range of applicants.
Muharam, the first month of the Islamic month calendar, has deep spiritual significance for Shiite Muslims. Every year, hundreds of thousands of pilgrims from Iran and around the world travel to Iraq, particularly the sacred city of Karbara, to pay tribute to Imam Hussein (AS).
