Ireland’s Tanaisto, or Deputy Prime Minister Simon Harris, defended the government’s position on Thursday that Israel was carrying out genocide in Gaza, Irish broadcaster RTE reported.
“We are the first government in the European Union (EU) to say that what Israel is doing is genocide. It’s genocide,” Harris told opposition lawmakers during a fierce exchange in Parliament known as Dáil.
Independent Katherine Connolly has accused the government of not doing enough to punish Israel in the 19-month war with Gaza, which killed more than 54,000 Palestinians, and more than half of their women and children, according to the Palestinian Ministry of Health.
“I’m tired of being sick and tired of being sick. I watch my kids die on TV screens, come to work every day, work with everyone here and do my best to demonstrate leadership in times of terrible conflict,” Harris said.
