TEHRAN – Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard (IRGC) has dismantled two terrorist teams plotting suicide attacks in the southeastern parts of Sistan and Balchestan. Five terrorists were killed in attacks on hideouts in the northern and southern regions of the state, according to IRGC ground force QUDS base.
According to an IRGC statement, the terrorists had planned suicide bombings and sabotage. Security forces recovered improvised explosive devices (IEDs) and 25 kilograms of explosives during the surgery, which were carried out in conjunction with the Intelligence Report Agency.
The crackdown has targeted Sistan and Baluchestan law enforcement agencies following recent attacks claimed by the so-called Jaish Al-Adl Terrorist Group. The group said on social media that members had launched an attack in Iranshaal county on Friday evening, leading to a clash with police.
Police officer Major Ramin Sadeki was killed in the attack, but some terrorists were injured. Authorities have launched a manhunt for escaped attackers, but it remains unclear whether the neutralised in the latest IRGC operation is related to the incident.
Sistan and Balchestan, the border regions of Pakistan, face repeated terrorist attacks on civilians and security forces. It has been revealed that terrorist groups operating in the region have ties to foreign intelligence reporting agencies.
In one of the most deadly recent attacks, Jaish Al-Adl killed 10 Iranian law enforcement officials in Taftan county last October. The group has a history of violence in the state, including temptations, attacks on civilians and attacks on police stations.
Since November 2024, the IRGC has led security operations along the southeastern border with support from local communities. Although multiple terrorist cells have been eliminated, the attack continues, with extremists receiving support from foreign groups, including Israeli Mossad.
